Teacher of the Year 2008
 

DESCRIPTION

Every year an award is made to a secondary school foreign language teacher in the Memphis area.  The award is made under the auspices of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Memphis.  The honoree receives a cash award and certificate.  Presentation of the award is made at the Language Fair [this year on April 5, 2008].  Nominations for the award will be by ballot, included in the initial Fair mailing to foreign language teachers in the area.
 
 

ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION PROCESS

Nominees must have at least three years of experience teaching a foreign language at the high school level.  Nominations may be made by fellow teachers or school administrators.  Nominations are encouraged for past candidates who have not won the award.  The award committee, composed of members of the University of Memphis Foreign Language Fair committee, will meet to select the recipient.  Nominees will be asked to submit to the committee a letter outlining their teaching philosophy and personal commitment to foreign language education, a current curriculum vitae, and a maximum of three letters of support.

Qualities especially to be regarded in considering the candidates include, but are not limited to: overall teaching ability and success, pedagogical innovativeness, promotion of foreign language study at the secondary level and in general, professional activity relevant to foreign language study, organization of special events or programs at nominee’s school.
